Made for the fundraiser benefiting Venezuelan earthquake victims and their families, hosted by Art League Houston and artist Violette Bule.

All proceeds from sales go to the Venezuelan Relief Fund.

On Wednesday, June 24th, 2026, two earthquakes struck Venezuela, registering magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 on the seismic scale. This zine shows what is inside ten blind boxes of five artworks, sold to help fund medical aid for earthquake survivors. Several of these blind boxes will be for sale separately, but accompanying this zine.

Paper Agates are the paper component of Kate's art practice. The name comes from an agate's banded structure, successive layers within the confines of a sample. Although agates appear in many forms, they form slowly through accumulation processes that mark time, just like the paper works.

The Agates are composites of the cities and the community in which the artist lives. Materials are mounded up and then eroded to reveal texts, textures, and images. In the same way the artist builds new terrains with painting, she reconstructs and recontextualizes existing earth-building processes with materials found in the world. Over time, these pieces become community snapshots or portraits, capturing time, memory, and culture in a visual capsule.
